Class Offerings

ALL CLASSES for adult and children are offered on your time schedule. You choose the days and times; all hours and days are available if the teacher is available.

Young People’s Beginning Knitting (8 years old at least) are offered on your time schedule. Learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and bind off. Garter, stockinette and ribbing patterns will be explored. Practice materials (yarn and needles) are provided. By the third class some students may want to purchase personal needles and yarn. Size 7 or 8 needles and a worsted weight smooth yarn would be best suited to the newly acquired skills.
Four 1½-hour classes or Three 2-hour classes $42

Kids Project Here is an opportunity to use a circular needle to complete a small felted shoulder bag. This is a class for those who have completed Kids Beginning Knitting Class or those who can knit and purl. The project includes increases and decreases, sewing a seam and I-cord.
There will be plenty of teacher support.
Two 1½-hour classes $30.

Adult Beginning Knitting This is a class for those who have never knitted or those returning to the art. Cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease and bind off will be presented and practiced with loaner needles and scrap yarn provided. Garter, stockinette, ribbing, basketweave and lace patterns will be explored. Discussions of gauge, patterns and yarn labels will be included. Come and expand your horizons. If you already have needles, you are welcome to use them. We will provide a forum for trying different types of needles.
Four 2-hour sessions $56.

Many beginners like to return for help with a forgotten technique or help with a project. Help is always available for those who have the beginner class.

Mothers & daughters are welcome in the Beginner class at a reduced rate for two.
Four 1½ hour classes $65.

Simple Projects develop skills and confidence

Squares to Make a Square Here is a way to experiment with pattern. Each square is different; some are more complex than others. The 13 by 13 squares become small practice pieces, but when sewn together a 41 by 52 throw results. Come for just a few or for all of them. Register in class for the next month’s square.
1½ hour class $15.

Lace Squares To Make A Square: This is a portable project that experiments with lace patterns. Each square is different; some are more complex than others. Each class will focus on one specific pattern.
1½ hour class $15.

Squares of 2008 Wash/dishcloths will be our focus. They will provide a chance to yield a finished product (no joining). Finished squares become house warming, baby gifts etc. Include a bar of homemade soap from Hopewell Herbals.
1½-hour class $15 per square

Using Double-pointed Needles Come and dispel the mystery. Here is a chance to explore using three needles to knit handwarmers, a small project in the round, or use the class as a refresher before trying the sock class.

Learn to Felt
First Felting!
Learn to felt and create a case for your knitting needles. With Paint Box yarns and a Knit One, Crochet Two pattern your finished project will be vibrant, but other wonderful felting yarns are available too. Basic knitting skills are all that are needed (cast on, knit, purl and bind off). Bring your finished knitting to the second class, we will felt it together in the shop. Turning felt to case will happen in the third class. Yarns must be chosen before the first class meeting. Felting will take place in the shop.
Three 1½-hour classes $35.

Bucket Bag: Yes, the very one that hangs around the shop. It is a versatile felted bag with stripes and novelty yarn artistically interspersed with the main color and I-cord straps.
Three 1½-hour classes $45.

Lucy Bag This is a round bag with two straps that interlock to close the top. Length of straps and size of bag are design choices. A third session of finishing and felting can be arranged to suit your schedule.
Three 2-hours classes $35.

Entrelac Market Bag Entrelac in the round and felting produce a wonderfully jaunty bag. This is not a beginner project. The pattern is from Bags: A Knitter’s Dozen from XRX Publishing. There is a beginning assignment. There are two sessions and then 2 weeks to knit and a third session.
Three 2-hour sessions $50.

Sock Basics!
Choose from several patterns: shop pattern, Lisa Knits “Spring Hiking Sock” or “Men’s Basic Sock”. Gauge is necessary before start of class.

Basic Sock This is a class for those who have never made socks, or those who would like extra practice. Proficiency with knitting, purling and casting on is necessary. Double pointed needles are used.
Three 2-hour sessions $50.

Hot Sock This is a great introduction to socks. The socks are made with bulky yarn, large needles that produce larger stitches and then finished by felting. Prerequisite skills: basic knitting (cast on, knit, purl).
Two 2-hour sessions $40.

Socks on Circulars
Socks on One Circular Needle Choose your own yarn; make a gauge swatch before class to determine the needle size which will yield 7 stitches per inch. A 12″ circular needle is needed.
Three 2-hour classes $50.

Socks on Two Circular Needles Two circular needles are an alternative to double pointed needles This is an intermediate class; proficiency with knitting, purling, casting on is important. Try knitting a sock using two circular needles. Explore the advantages of this method. The three sessions include: top to heel, then heel flap and turn with gusset and third toe shaping and Kitchener stitch. Before the first class prepare a gauge swatch that produces 6.5 stitch per inch. Bring two circular needles the size that yields the gauge in 16″ or 24″ length to first class with swatch.
Three 2-hour classes $60.

Socks 2 At A Time If you have tried several different socks AND have become discouraged by the same problem that two are mandatory, here is the class for you. Make a pair of socks at the same time on the same needles. This is not a class for the faint of heart or beginners. You must have made one sock and be familiar with circular needles. This is a technique class.
Three 2-hour classes $50.

Other Sock Techniques
Cat Bordhi’s Learning Socks This wonderful crafter of socks has moved outside the parameters of historic sock “architecture” with new ideas to avoid picking up gusset stitches and to aid the knitter in finding the “perfect” fit sock. We will explore each “master design” by knitting the small socks designed for children.
One 2-hour session $20.

Toe-up Sock This is not a beginner class, but the most difficult part is the cast on. This sock allows the knitter to choose a more luxurious yarn. The cuff is the last part, so one can end the sock when the yarn ends and not be required to buy more yarn.

Entrelac Introduction Try a new technique! One session just to try your hand.
2 hours $15.

Entrelac Scarf Now that you know how to make those wonderful rectangles, come and try your hand at a scarf. We will create the patterns.
Two 2-hour sessions $30.

Kimono Knit  Kimono Knit, a great book from Interweave Press, is the source of this project. Come try your hand at a one piece vest.
Three 2-hour sessions $60.
Swedish (Two Stranded Kniting) Mitts Learn this new technique and complete a pair of fingerless mitts.
Three 2-hour classes $40
Weaving
Tapestry Weaving Various tapestry techniques will be explored; plain and basket weave, soumak, twining, rya, interlock, slits, dovetail, and color play. Before the first class meeting, each student will build or buy a frame loom (directions are available upon registration).
Three 2-hour sessions $50.

Greeting Cards Weaving patterns with colored paper will create unique cards.
Two 2-hour sessions $40.
Spinning
Spinning
If you have ever wanted to try spinning, here is your chance. Traditional wheels are available to use in the shop or bring your own. Fiber is provided for instruction. Fridays, 10-2. Come as often as you like.
Instruction $20 for 2 hour session.

Crochet

Crochet Scarf This is a beginning class for adults and young people (over 8 years of age). Instruction includes: single crochet, chain stitch and turning stitch. Problem solving, tension maintenance and finishing will be covered.
Three 2-hour sessions $30.

Granny Squares Create the traditional Granny Square motif even if you are a beginner. Joining techniques, pattern reading and various stitches (chain, slip and double crochet) will be taught.
Two 2-hour sessions $30.

Crochet Hat Make a whimsical hat for summer fun or a gift.
Two 1½-hour sessions $30.

Crocheted Wash Cloths Each session has a different pattern.
1½-hour session $15.

Curly Scarf This is a crochet class where beginners will be comfortable.
Two 2-hour sessions $35.

Crochet Market Sac This is a great easy to carry bag using 2nd Time Cotton. 3 2-hour sessions
Three 2-hour sessions $45.

Crochet Drawstring Bag Sarah has designed this bag that takes little space of its own and it has a big appetite.

Holiday projects
Colorwork Stocking This is a stocking with a knitted multicolor design. It is a chance to use a graph, two colors at a time and review sock structure. Two patterns available.
Three 2-hour classes $50.

Felted Stocking This is a great project for sock techniques.
Three 2-hour sessions $40.

Aran Stocking Try your hand at a texture stocking.
Two 2-hour classes $40.

Felted Tree Ornaments Felted Hat Ornaments ”Felted Stocking Ornaments” Felted Poinsettia and Mittens” in miniature can be used as holiday decorations and embellished to match your decor.
2 hours each $30.

Mittens Holiday gift or just preparation for winter weather, these mittens can be knitted on straights or double points. It is a great beginners’ project. The pattern is written for a variety of sizes.
Two 1½-hour sessions $40.

Beaded Bells from Swallow Hill Creations would make a “classy” addition to holiday decorations. The kit for eight bells is provided. Size 000 circular needle is needed.
Two 1½ hour classes Cost $60.

CLASS POLICY Class size is limited. Payment (checks or cash please) must be made at time of registration. In order to have the proper materials available, please register a week before the beginning of the class. Materials needed are your responsibility. Please purchase before the first class meeting.
